BREXIT - Brief Statement
In view of the potential impact that the UK’s new relationship with the EU from 1st January 2021 could have on our supply chain and customers, we are documenting what we at Clyde are doing to mitigate any possible negative effects.
• Workforce. All our workforce has the right to work and remain in the UK, so we do not anticipate any disruption from this angle. Our staff will continue to provide the high level of service that our customers have come to expect from us.
• Supply Chain. Many of our key product lines are purchased from outwith the EU. These should largely be unaffected by any change to the UK’s relationship with the EU, although we do anticipate some disruption at the ports during this period, which could affect lead-times. Our European suppliers and producers are all committed to the UK market and they have a vested interest to ensure minimal disruption in supply to their UK customers. All goods coming to UK from the EU from 1st January 2021 will have to have completed import controls and paperwork, which is likely to cause some delays initially. Practically we have taken steps to ensure that we will have significantly higher stocks available in early 2021 to mitigate this. We do not anticipate any changes to duty on paper products as even if we operate under WTO rules there would be no duty payable.
• Currency. Sterling could be affected by these negotiations, but as this is completely out with our control and affects the whole market, we will have to assess the situation at the time. You can be assured that we will be doing everything possible to ensure that we remain competitive.
• Summary. We would like to assure all our customers of our total commitment to ensure a continuing supply of competitive products, during and after the Brexit negotiation period, and that we have taken every action possible to cause minimal disruption.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your continued custom. If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
