Clyde Team Member of the Quarter: Heather Paynter

We’re all about ‘credit where credit’s due’ here at Clyde and each quarter we select one individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty, for some well-deserved recognition in the form of our ‘Employee of the Quarter’ award!

This time, the plaudits go to our newly-appointed Operations Manager, Heather Paynter, who has been with the company for six years but just recently moved into a new role and has risen to the challenge with aplomb. She’s a numbers ninja, a warehouse whizzkid and a customer services queen – is there anything this woman can’t do? We caught up with her to find out:

Tell us a bit about your role with Clyde…

I’ve been with Clyde for six years but in January 2018 I moved into the role of Operations Manager, which involves some purchasing, overseeing the customer service & warehouse teams and managing the operations department. in general. I also work as part of the Accounts team.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Clyde?

I like the Print and Presentation Packaging side of the business best – It’s really satisfying to see an enquiry progress from a customer’s idea into the finished product, and to help advise the client along the way.

From an accounts point of view, getting the figures to balance is what I like best – it sounds sad but that ‘woohoo!’ moment when they finally balance is extremely satisfying!

What’s the most challenging thing about your job?

Aside from the 101 price increases in the paper market in the last 18 months, being launched into the role of Operations Manager is the most challenging thing I’ve done in my career so far– there’s a tonne of changes to be made so it’s been a steep learning curve in some areas. The quote on my desktop at the moment is ‘When you don’t give up you cannot fail’.

Do you have any hobbies or outside interests?

I would love to travel more – I visited America last summer and loved it. It’s such a huge country, I’d head back there every year to see another small part of it!

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself…

I grew up in South Africa for the first 5 ½ years of my life and moved to Glasgow with my family, where we’ve been ever since. I didn’t live there long enough to be too bothered about the change in weather when we moved but still think a more even distribution of sunshine across the world would be good!
